There have been quite a few submissions on this topic. The biggest one is:

216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video] - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49592375 - Sept 2026 (971 comments so far)

(Normally we'd merge this one thither but it's already so big maybe we'll just treat it as a follow-up)

The weird thing is that this pretty huge story has essentially zero visibility to the public until now since it's only been covered in tech media. I wonder how long it'll take for general-public media to wake up to it to warn the masses?

Yes and secondarily weird is why there was a flurry of these all at once. I mean it's probably just the usual group dynamics but it would be interesting to know what precipitated it, and why now.

In terms of mass media coverage, if this really is the bingo-card GDPR violation it appears to be then the fines for LG will be... staggering, as in corporate-survival-level staggering, which means they'll be fighting it tooth and nail every step of the way. So you'd want to be really, really sure about what you're saying about them before you run it on the front page.

Wasn't it the Gamer's Nexus video? That has a huge audience.

        Ah, that would explain it.
