I hear you! But these feelings are so common that if they justify breaking the guidelines, we might as well have no guidelines. Everyone always feels like the other person started it and did worse, and that their own contribution is always defensive and not-as-bad. It follows that everyone needs to stick to the intended spirit of the site no matter how badly others are behaving or you feel they are. That's not easy of course. But it's the only way for this place not to destroy itself.
